Corpus Christi was a popular tourist destination in 2018 for Airbnb users, with renters making 11.5 million in total for the year. It’s no surprise that the city remains a top tourist attraction with its vibrant history and scenic beaches. Since Airbnb was introduced to Corpus Christi, many tourists have been opting for a more local stay rather than staying at a hotel room or resort.

The average Airbnb host in the city made approximately $13,800 per year when they rented out their home to guests. Other interesting statistics about the average Airbnb renter include that approximately twenty percent of them senior citizens and seventy percent in total were women. Both the Nueces and Aransas county also had an average 4.8 rating out of 5 for its renters, giving the area a very hospitable reputation.

Currently, Corpus Christi does not have a short-term rental regulation ordinance. According to the company, approximately over 100,000 guests have stayed in the area since its arrival in 2015. As of now, there are no plans to amend the Unified Development Code, although discussions have been made according to Nina Nixon-Mendez, director of development services for Corpus Christi.

In 2017, Airbnb ordered a 6% state hotel occupancy tax on all of the states’ eligible bookings. As a result, about $15.3 million in tax revenue was brought to Texas due to this agreement. For 2018, the total amount of guests in the Nueces county were 72,000, 9,000 guests for the Aransas county and 2,800 guests for the San Patricio County.

For those looking to consider renting out their home for a short-term lease through Airbnb, it’s important to take into consideration the different requirements that the company has and if your home or apartment meets them.
