Image titleCorpus Christi doesn’t typically get very cold weather, though the lows for the year often hit in January. Temperatures range from the low 50’s and even drop down to the 30's. Given the climate of the city, it’s important to know how to prepare for cold conditions.

Here are three tips to help you prepare for cold temperatures in Corpus Christi.

Prepare to Heat Your Home

Heating your home is essential to ensure that cold temperatures from the outside do not proliferate to the interior of your home. If your house has various windows, your home’s interior is at greater risk of cooling up. It is important that your heater is working prior to a drop in temperature. Testing of your heater typically requires that you turn on your thermostat to 80 degrees to make sure that warm air is blowing through the vents. To ensure that your vents perform to its maximum performance, clean and clear them prior to use. Also be sure to replace your air filter if necessary.

Make sure your outdoor space is covered

If your front or backyard contains furniture or fragile plants, it is best to cover them prior to temperatures dropping. Anything containing glass should also be brought indoors since it is at risk of cracking. Outdoor furniture covers can be bought at any Home Improvement store or be ordered online. If you have a lawn mower that is kept outside, you should drain the gas tank to prevent any accidents caused by cold temperatures.

Ensure that Pipes are Protected

Pipes are at risk of getting damaged when they are exposed to freezing temperatures. To ensure that your pipes do not burst, insulate exposed pipes and drain any water. Be sure that no water is running from outside faucets and disconnect any pipes that may be connected. You are better off keeping your pipes inside of your garage rather than out in the cold.
